About the smartphone password

There are several types of password protection that you can use on your BlackBerry smartphone.

Smartphone password

You can create a smartphone password to help protect your smartphone from unauthorized access and use, and you can
set your smartphone to lock after a certain period of inactivity. You must enter your smartphone password to unlock your
smartphone. If you forget your password, it can't be recovered. For security reasons, if you exceed the number of allowed
password attempts, your smartphone deletes all your smartphone data and prompts you to set a new password.

BlackBerry ID

After you create a BlackBerry ID, you can use a single email address and password to log in to any BlackBerry product or
service that supports BlackBerry ID. If you exceed the number of allowed attempts to log in using BlackBerry ID, wait for
the security lockout to end before you try to log in again. To reset your BlackBerry ID password, visit

Password Keeper

You can use the Password Kepper (

) to store password information, such as your passwords for online banking. The

Password Keeper is designed to encrypt your password information, and decrypt it when you enter the Password Keeper
password. Rember that you might also need your smartphone password before you access the Password Keeper. If you
exceed the number of allowed attempts to open the Password Keeper, the Password Keeper data can't be accessed unless
you restore your smartphone data. After you restore your smartphone data, when you attempt to open Password Keeper

Restoring your data

Research In Motion recommends that you regularly create and save a backup file on your computer, especially before you
update any software. Maintaining a current backup file on your computer might allow you to recover smartphone data if
your smartphone is lost, stolen, or corrupted by an unforeseen issue.
